WELCOME!
Every year on the 20th of October, Kenyans celebrate our political heroes: Men and Women who contributed to the struggle for Kenya’s Independence. Mashujaa Day until the promulgation of the new Kenya constitution on August, 27th 2010, is a national holiday in Kenya that commemorates the detention of the group known as “Kapenguria Six” on October 20th, 1952. The members of these group were Jomo Kenyatta, Paul Ngei, Bildad Kaggia, Achieng Oneko, Kungu Karumba, and Fred Kubai. Mashujaa day is an opportunity to reflect on how far Kenya has come in its struggle to become an independent nation and also recognize those that contributed to the freedom.
Other Mashujaa heroes in this category include; Jaramogi Oginga Odinga, Daniel Arap Moi, Harry Thuku, Tom Mboya, Dedan Kimathi, Martin Shikuku, Masinde Muliro, Ronald Ngala, Pio Gama Pinto, Koinange Wa Mbiyu among others.
Building on the spirit and sacrifices of the heroes mentioned above, the Annual Mashujaa Awards Gala recognizes and celebrates the achievements of Kenyans both in the Homeland Kenya and the entire diaspora at large.
